Prenatal care is very important.
-
I do not practice medicine.
-
I do midwifery care, which for my practice, includes labs and ultra sounds.
-
I will not break your water to get your labor started. (called Amniotomy).
-
I will not use drugs to induce or augment your labor (pitocin, cytotec). If you feel that you need these, then you NEED to be in a hospital. This is out of the ‘norm’ and you will no longer be a ‘low risk’.
-
I will not ‘push’ to get your labor going, just because today is your due date.
-
I do use a doppler to listen to your baby’s heartbeat.
-
I do not do routine episiotomies, shave preps or enemas.
-
I do not tell you what position you need to labor or deliver in, I encourage you to change your position if I feel it will help you with your labor and delivery, or if it will be a benefit to the baby.
-
I do not use forceps or vacuum extractor.
-
I do not cut the umbilical cord until it has stopped pulsating and this can take from 3 to 30 minutes.
-
I do not limit your food and fluid intake when you are in labor, in fact I encourage you to eat often and drink water, juice or herbal teas often during your labor and delivery.
I Will

The second visit and each visit after that will last at least 30 minutes to 1 hour. Continue to provide education including any new information. I believe you need to be informed at all times.
